Fitness Models
Fitness models differ from glamor models in that they sport a more athletic, toned physique. Women with this type of
body are best geared toward sports modeling or in the physical fitness arena. A lot of models join figure contests and
shows. While bodybuilding deals more with size, tone and symmetry are the main concerns when it comes to fitness
competitions for women.
Requirements
Typical requirements to be a model include the acceptable height, symmetrical body, attractive face, and ability to project well in photographs. These are just a few qualifications of being a model for sports magazines. Fitness magazines and competitions typically do not look for the overly thin, emaciated looks of glamor and fashion models, nor do they look for the large, bulky biceps and abs sported by weightlifters and pro bodybuilders. If you have a healthy, athletic body, you can probably do well in figure modeling.
How to stay on course with working out
Working out is a requirement if you want this job. Getting the determination to keep on working out depends on you.
Of course, there is greater motivation if you see this as a way to earn money and if you honestly want to make a career
out of it. If you are just starting out, emphasizing short-term goals, such as sleeping an hour early to hit the gym in the morning, can be accomplished with a bit of discipline. You will also need to make sure that you follow your workout
routine, as overworking one body part can throw the symmetry of your body off balance. Keeping a workout and diet
journal is also important. Most pros find that they can better keep track of the calories they consume and work off with this.
Taking body shots of yourself from all four angles (front, sides, and back) will also help you get a clear idea of the
changes happening in your body as you work out. Comparing old and new photos and seeing the difference is enough
motivation to stick to your regimen.
Joining competitions
Joining competitions is one way to get noticed by the industry. Top competitions include Ms. Fitness, the oldest and
most prestigious contest in the world, Fitness Olympia, and Fitness International. These usually put winners into the
limelight where modeling gigs and other opportunities abound.
Career opportunities
Aside from modeling, anyone with passion for fitness can find a job as a consultant for producers of movies and TV
shows, or as a physical trainer for private individuals such as fellow models, actors and actresses, and even sports
personalities. A lot of models have turned to advertising health products and writing their own e-books that they publish on their websites.
